Hi, my name is Fiu See. Christian education is not an alternative. It is not a luxury. It is not even just a good idea. It is the great commandment to teach the next generation to love our God with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds. As stated in Matthew 22: 37-38, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”
9 years ago, I was accompanying my daughter Joyce for a home-school event called the Regional Student Convention in Singapore. I started home-schooling her when she was 13 years old. During the convention, God spoke to me. “Will you start a Christian school to reach the next generation?”
As I look back, it has always been my desire to impact and share my faith and Christian values to the next generation. All these years, I invested in so many books and resources. Unfortunately, due to the busyness of my work and the business, these resources were left on the shelf collecting dust.
In 2012, I decided to take the step of faith to obey the call to prepare the next generation for the kingdom of God. We started the Christian Learning Centre with only 3 of my own children and 3 children from the neighbourhood. The first year was very challenging. Finances and resources were limited. As we prayed, God encouraged my heart and spoke to us. It is a privilege to work with these children whom He has entrusted to us. And God has given us the best years of their lives to equip and train them. God is so good.
Slowly, He brought in a great team of talented staff to serve along with me. Many parents also invested their time, resources and talent in these young children. From a small school of 6 students, today we have 120 students. Weekly, we have the privilege to lead students to Christ. Just last week, we had 6 students accept Christ and say the sinner’s prayer. We saw many of these students start to serve in our church’s youth ministry team, Ablaze. It is truly a privilege to be able to be there to pray with them daily and to share the Bible with them.
When I first started the school, little did I know that God had a bigger plan for this school. The students who eventually came to our school did not just need character building, but also love, emotional support and rebuilding of their self-esteem. Today, the centre serves not only students from Christian families, but also students from broken homes, special needs students and even students with different learning capabilities. We provide counselling and emotional support. We build a safe community for them. We organised living skills activities to equip them for life. In the past few years, there have been so many transforming stories of children and parents from brokenness to a purposeful life.
We believe education is life. God is so good. He has blessed us with many awards throughout these years. Last year, in the Regional Student Convention, a total of 30 schools and 500 contestants participated. Our school won first place for academic, art, photography, media, craft, athletic and the music division. The most exciting part of this ministry is to see their lives transformed because of the Word of God. My prayer is that God will use this young generation to impact all levels of society and all walks of life.
