Once again, Hands of Hope successfully pulled off its annual community event – Christmas 4 Kids on Saturday, 2nd December 2017, from 10am to 2pm at Unidus Community Centre. This year, more than 600 residents from local suburbs, consisting of more than 200 adults and 400 children attended the event. The children had a variety of 21 activities to enjoy, including jumping castle, rock climbing, face painting, bop-along buddies, balloon twists, tug of war and fishing game. Every child received a Christmas present that was given out by Hands of Hope.
Toli Mahina from Mamana Academy of Tongan Arts and Culture presented a beautiful song performance, followed by a unique Tongan dance with 20 Tongan youth. The children also had a lot of fun in the dance-along session led by Groundbreakaz. The stage performance ended with a duet song performance by Tim Ngugi and Deborah Lim from Hope Church Ablaze.+++
Everyone was treated to a free sausage sizzle over lunch, as well as a wide range of desserts and sweet treats to top off the feed. All the food and beverages were sponsored by our wonderful sponsors – Teys Services, BidFood, Coca-Cola, Frucor, Wolff Coffee Roasters, CTC Catering & Café and Hope Church members.
Our guests of honour this year included the Councillor of Calamvale Ward, Cr Angela Owen, and Councillor of Forest Lake, Cr Charles Strunk. In addition to that, Anglicare, Inala Youth Service, Queensland Ambulance & First Aids and Queensland Police Service joined us to provide interactive activities and service information to the local communities. We thank all the local councillors and community agencies for their ongoing support to this event.
Last but not least, we greatly appreciate the 207 volunteers who helped both on the day and with the preparations prior the event. We can’t thank you enough for all your amazing works and time you invested to make this event possible! Christmas 4 Kids has been running annually to generously bless children and families in the south-western suburbs of Brisbane and to bring the Christmas cheer. You can be part of this by volunteering for the event on 1st December 2018. We hope and look forward to see you next year.
