God’s Church, God’s Way

In June 2024, HIM Singapore organized a church camp in Batam, Indonesia, centred around the theme “God’s Church, God’s Way”. The camp provided a refreshing escape from the usual hectic work schedules typical for many Singaporeans. Pastor James, Suzanna Wong, Dr Nurot and his family (Dr Uraiwan and his daughter, Grace) flew in as key speakers for the programme.

The camp featured two programs for adults and youths, running simultaneously, with some activities (like game sessions) held together at a single venue. The schedule was spread over two days, including praise and worship, team bonding exercises, and sermons aligned with the camp’s theme.

During the camp, participants deepened their understanding, appreciation and significance of being part of a Christian community and family. In this community, everyone plays a role, encouraging and supporting one another, similar to how most conventional families operate.

As Christians go through various seasons and journeys with God, the community offers ongoing support through prayers and accountability. The sermons highlighted the crucial role of a healthy church culture in fostering an environment where believers can reflect God’s love, grace, unity, and intentions. The importance of nurturing and equipping believers for discipleship and mission was also emphasized, enabling spiritual growth and effectiveness in fulfilling the Great Commission and advancing God’s kingdom on earth.

Dr. Uraiwan’s testimony of sharing the gospel in the workplace revealed how God has placed each individual in specific marketplaces to advocate for Him and draw people closer through our actions and sharing of the gospel. In Singapore’s fast-paced and competitive environment, where self-focus is prevalent, the camp served as a reminder of the first love and the mission to reach out and share the good news with others.

Nicholas Hang, a first time delegate of the church camp was  inspired by the testimonies and  shares “There is a need to focus not only on oneself but also to be on constant lookout for others in need, embodying the call to live out one’s faith actively, as in Philippians 2:4: “Not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.””
